ADDITIONAL PRODUCT INFORMATION

Foxboro Stadium opened as Schaefer Stadium in 1971 as home to the New England Patriots. (The team name was also updated that year after having been the Boston Patriots since 1960.) It was built in less than eleven months and the location - the midpoint between Boston and Providence, RI - was sold to the Patriots for $1 by the owner of the Bay State Raceway. However, neither the state nor town contributed to the construction and, as a result, the Stadium had few amenities and a small capacity of 60,000. At the end of the 2001 season in which the Patriots won their first Super Bowl, Foxboro was demolished. The footprint of Foxboro initially became the parking lot for its successor, Gillette Stadium, and is currently part of Patriot Place, an open-air shopping center.
